Google redoes its interface

Ok, so Google search has been top dog for yonks now. That's accepted and all that. However, it is taking blows from either side from Bing and has now been forced to redo its webpage. First difference is the new search bar...

... which isn't a massive difference, but it still is worth mentioning as it does look different on the home screen. Now, more differences. There are new features such as a new sidebar; timeline and a feature called wagonwheel.

Ok, the new sidebar (it's on the left like on this post), it allows you to quickly skip to images and videos, etc, but it's the similarity to Bing which is surprising. Is google afraid that its quest for world domination might be harmed by microsoft's poky little search engine? Now, more features, the timeline is pretty cool, especially the bar graph at the top (pictured above right). I searched for tech and that is the graph that popped up to accompany the search. Nice.
Now, for one of the coolest features, wagonwheel (pictured right). I searched for tech and those links are what popped up. It is a nice visual representation of your search and gives you handy links to populated sites which may be related to your search. Overall, I must admit to thinking that this is a good refresh for google. It brings their search right up to date, but also keeps it looking assuringly like the old google so people aren't intimidated. Now read on for a slideshow of the new google site, or just visit it for yourself!
