Googlemania

As of late, I've been using Chrome as my default browser, after using Firefox for about a year. I'd been told by a friend, Peter, that Chrome beats Firefox hands down. Despite hearing otherwise from many other people, I decided to give it a whirl. And I was impressed.

The first and most obvious difference is the accessibility, usability and space-saving of Chrome.

Here is a screenshot of Chrome and Firefox side by side on Windows 7:

As you can see, there are many more elements in Firefox than there is Chrome. Firefox takes up three times the amount of space Chrome does. This doesn't necessarily mean that Chrome has less features in contrast with Firefox. It just means Google has laid the features out better.

This is Firefox without the address bar or bookmarks bar. Chrome is still slimmer by a millimetre.

Getting rid of the address bar in Firefox is quite pointless because it means you must open a separate dialog box just to launch a website.

--- Note from MarkProvanP: ---
One thing that Firefox can do that Chrome cannot is moving around UI elements. For example, I have changed Firefox on my 1024x600 netbook running Ubuntu Karmic Netbook Remix so that it uses less space:

So, I was walking home from school and I see this:

Chrome is now being advertised on billboards. I've never seen another browser do this before.

In other news, go to Google and click the 'I'm feeling lucky' button without typing anything in the search box. A countdown will appear showing you how many seconds there are until the Near Year. This may be seen as pointless but it supports the well-known fact that Google is a playful company.

This is a good thing because, personally, I'd rather use a playful company than a boring, monotone one.

Finally, Google has released it's own URL-shortening tools, called Goo.gl, which is currently restricted to a number of Google Apps.

Google is going mad, and I love it!

I tried Chrome just there, but wouldn't close using the "X" button top right so I uninstalled it. I also didn't like the fact that links came up bottom left all the time, that got annoying.
