iPod Touch App Review: Football Manager Handheld 2010

The setup screen above gives an idea of how many leagues can be loaded.
This is the main screen from which everything can be accessed.
As a keen follower of the Football Manager series, I was somewhat surprised by the announcement that Sega and Sports Interactive were developing an application for the iPod/iPhone market. From what has been said on forums and among personal friends, it has been well received and the general consensus is that the application is a hit.

The Football Manager 2010 application is a complex game although compared to its PC and xBox based counterparts it is rather primitive; it is based on the PSP version of the successful series and offers and offers hours of fun to the user.

As I've already said I have played Football Manager (and previously Championship Manager) for years and I looked forward to the release of the app. My jaw dropped at the price tag attached to the product but an recently bought iTunes gift card so it didn't prove much of a problem. For record's sake it costs the consumer £6.99. For your money you get a squad of maximum 36 players, realistic finances, two scouts, various leagues from eleven countries, coach reports and ten seasons in the game: to name but a few. For the seasoned Football Manager this would appear to be limited but it more than covers all bases and gives a good representation for the platform.

The application is SI's first venture into the App Store and based on the success of this one, I hope that there are more to come.

It's funny, because that game would cost a lot more for the PSP but it's because the costs are so low for iPhone that you think £7 is high! I would pay 3 times that for a PSP game!

For an iPod App, it is expensive, James.
