Tablet computers in general: James' thoughts

Tablet computers seem to be taking the world by storm at the moment. Just look at the iPad and the ICD Gemini and the JooJoo. These seem to have come out of nowhere since the rumours of the iPad really started hotting up. Now, more are being released every week it seems with their own best points. So, what is it about tablets which is so attractive right now? It might be the touch form factor which is always a big seller. However, even the cheapest phones nowadays can be touch so that isn't the only attraction. Possibly, it could be due to the increased size. However, I believe that it is something else, something a bit more subtle. Weirdly, it could just be the desirable person inside us wanting to keep up with the latest form factor and fashionable item of the moment. I mean, come on, could you really imagine using your iPad in 20 years time? Imagine what technology was like 20 years ago. Now consider that if the same advances are made in these next 20 years how rubbish the iPad will look in comparison. Are tablets really that good? Time will tell in my view. For now, though, it's the iPad that shall rule the roost in this area of technology.
