Are digital cameras going backwards?

Yes, that is the question I am asking. You see, I think they are. For two reasons.

One of them is the fact that more and more of them seem to run on AA batteries, which is awful! You see, what you want is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery because it delivers much better performance. This is a real problem with many digital cameras nowadays, especially in the lower price range. This has to be eradicated, nothing should run off batteries because they cost so much in the long run.

The other problem with modern day digital cameras is this: optical viewfinders seem to be vanishing. It seems to only be with the latest range of cameras, since the trend is to have a larger LCD screen, but what about in bright light? An optical viewfinder is so useful in that location. The only brand that does them is Canon, and not even on all their models. So, digital cameras are going backwards if they are using these features (AA batteries and no optical viewfinder).

Yes, but even then optical triumphs over digital in many aspects, such as zoom. but you're right, dslrs are very good.
