How To: Make Vista faster

Vista is notorious for its slow performance on relatively fast computers, so, in this post, I shall tell you how to do little things that have a big boost to your computer’s performance. First, go into the control panel, and then click on performance information and tools. The “adjust visual affects” button on the left is the one you are looking for, go onto that, and choose “best for performance”. You should notice a rapid increase in your computer’s general speed, which is never a bad thing.

Or, just install Windows 7. :-P

Seriously though, it is useful to do that, in fact I do it whenever I'm editing video. http://www.blackviper.com/ also has a lot of useful tips for tweaking the OS to perfection.

I know, but it is expensive to buy 7 and installing is a bit of a faff. This is just a way for vista users to get a bit of extra performance out of their computers.
