Distaste to Mac OS X

I am a Windows user, fact. The reason is I can't afford a Mac. But at school there are some Macs in the computing labs and I have a bit of a gripe with the OS. You see, there are a couple of things that just put me off Mac OS completely.

One of those is the dock and the ribbon bar at the top as well. Windows has both put into one at the bottom, which I like. But Mac OS has both, and this means your application never takes up the full screen, which sucks. I like having Firefox taking up most of my 15" screen, and wouldn't want it any other way. Looking at the picture below compared to one of windows and it's clear to see where I'm coming from.

Another thing I don't like about Mac OS is its greyness. You see, iTunes is good software, but I hardly ever use it because I hate the grey look of it. My iPod Nano is like that (although I love using it, but that's different) as well. The only exception is the iPhone, which is all multicolour due to the apps on the screen. Safari, too, is all grey, and that is why I use Mozilla more than anything else. Quicktime is the same (but I never use it). Do you share my distaste for Mac OS?

Cammy here. ^^
While I am loving the new netbook-come-laptop at the moment, I'd still come back to the main mac desktop for anything other than typing documents, short web browsing sessions or Skype calls. It just seems to be too slow. I don't mean to the extent it would irritate you, it's just, having been a mac user for the past, what, 8 years, I've suppose I've come to expect faster speeds. I'm running Home Premium 7 as opposed to Leopard, and even with an extra gig of ram it seems to be slower. I'm unsure as to why but I'm guessing it's to do with write/read speed.
To your first point, about the dock and top menu bar. Firstly, you do have the option to minimize the dock when not in use. Leaving only the menu bar, which, on default is smaller than most other windows menu bars on default. It also helps to have the two separate. I prefer having my app access all together, meaning I can quickly switch programs, and my current applications controls separate. The menu options correspond with the general top left orientated feel to applications. With all program options and window navigational tools with little distance, with other less important information such as clock, volume and connectivity tucked away top right, including the search feature which tends to be desktop, and due to the subconscious top left window positioning, the least cluttered area. So in full screen with lack of a dock and general screen sizes being bigger, you CAN have things as large as you would like.
And in response to your greyness dislike, I find it tends to keep things clean and smooth looking. If you tired of the default styled desktops, you can easily change to a brighter background, without clashes between application surrounds and your wallpaper. Any wallpaper works instantly.
However, a Windows style theme set would be nice however.

Fair enough, by the way, i did a post on how to improve windows speed, it was originally for vista but should be pretty similar for 7, link is here: http://technokratos.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-make-vista-faster.html
